Project Fire Solutions

Gemini

Sprinkler installations detect developing fires in their early stages, alert staff quickly and at the same time extinguishing these fires guaranteeing reliable fire protection twenty-four hours a day. Unintentional release of the system (by accidental mechanical damage of the sprinkler, for example ) is very unlikely but, unfortunately cannot be ignored.

That is one of the reasons why, until now sprinkler systems have seldom been used in particularly sensitive areas where an accidental release would cause severe damage. In the past, if a system was used in these areas it was normally a detector controlled pre-action system.

The areas in question are, for example:

This slight risk of an accidental release can be almost eliminated using these detector-controlled systems. Such systems however require a high level of technical resource and are very costly to install.

A GEMINI® SPRINKLER SYSTEM CAN PREVENT UNINTENTIONAL RELEASE.

With this system the water will not be discharged intil both of the sprinklers open as their direct side-by-side arrangement forms a common safety unit. Generally, both of them will only open at the corresponding fire characteristics. If however, only one of the sprinkler heads is released, e.g. because it’s locking mechanism has been damaged - a trouble signal will be immediately activated.

THE FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPAL

1. On release of the Left Sprinkler (marked A on image 1, see gallery), the floater is no longer supported by the spring-loaded spacer piece and will drop down to operate a switch contact. The GEMINI® sprinkler
still remains closed against the pipe system and no water will be discharged.

2. On release of the Right Sprinkler (marked B on image 1, see gallery) the top sealing cone and the distance pipe are no longer supported by the glass bulb. The water enters the GEMINI ® sprinkler and causes the floater to move up, thus operating the switch contact. At the same time the bottom sealing cone of the distance pipe closes so that no water can be discharged. In both case, the switching contact transmits a signal which is evaluated and indicated at the sprinkler monitoring system DSZ 3000 or by a connected fire detection control panel. The trouble signal can also be transmitted to any remote or external location.

3. On release of both Sprinklers the water is discharged through the left sprinkler (marked A on on image 1, see gallery) of the system. An alarm signal is transmitted to a continuously manned post - e.g. an external
fire station, and also by the alarm pressure switch of the existing wet pipe alarm valve set.

Mounting

Our GEMINI ® Sprinkler can be connected to pipe work of an already installed sprinkler system using conventional sealing materials. They are suitable for fixing into conventional ceilings (fig.1, see gallery) or suspension ceilings. A minimum space of 300 mm is required for installation above the suspended ceiling.(fig. 2, see gallery) The space between the sprinkler and the hole in the suspended ceiling is covered by escutcheon/rosette plates which can be fitted after sprinklers have been installed.

Sprinkler Monitoring System DSZ 3000

Any unintentional release or defect of the system e.g. Caused by a broken wire or short circuit on
the quiescent current supervised lines will produce an audible alarm signal which can be silenced supervised lines will produce an audible alarm signal which can be silenced by pressing the push button ‘HORN OFF’.
The control lamp indicating the release of the sprinkler, however is to be switched off by pressing the push button ‘RESET’, after resetting the sprinkler system. Pressing down the ’RESET’ button is also required for restoring the operating condition after a mains supply failure or when putting the system into operation for the first time.

Electric Installation

The connection cables and the supervision module are delivered ready for installation. Coded plug-in connections prevent wrong installations and can be therefore be installed easily by sprinkler fitters. However, the connections to the sprinkler  monitoring system DSZ 3000 or to the Fire Detection Control Panel should only be installed by a skilled electrician.
