Zonecheck

When a Fire Certificate is issued for Sprinkler protected premises, it stipulates that the system must be maintained and tested to the British Standard. Currently this is BS 5306 Part 2. These rules make the quarterly flow switch test mandatory.

The flow switch test can be difficult, time consuming and costly. For these, and other reasons it is often ignored and the Fire Certificate and Fire Precautions (Workplace ) Regulations 1999 are contravened.

Flow-switches installed in a sprinkler system are required to be tested on a quarterly basis, and for that test to be valid, sufficient water must pass the Flow-Switch to activate it, (equal to one Sprinkler head in operation)

Prior to a conventional routine test, the pressure on both sides of the Flow Switch is equal, maintaining an equilibrium with no water flowing.

During a routine test, water is discharged from the Down Stream end of the pipe, causing a drop in the pressure.

This pressure difference across the flow switch generates a water flow causing the Flow Switch to operate.

The unique ZONECHECK ® system is the modern way to carry out this important test quickly, efficiently and inexpensively.

Zonecheck ® simplifies testing by re-circulating the water within the pipe around the flow switch, to simulate the flow of the sprinkler head in operation.

THE FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPAL

The ZONECHECK® solution is simply to connect a Pump to either side of the Flow switch to create a loop, then by switching on the pump, an artificial pressure difference can be created across the Flow switch. This in turn generates a water flow around the loop, causing the Flow switch to operate, but this time without any loss of water from the system.

In a standard Flow switch test, water is discharged from the sprinkler system to create a flow past the Flow switch causing it to operate.

ZONECHECK® simply re-circulates the existing water around the Flow Switch (irrespective of the static pressure), creating a closed system with no water discharge.

Installing ZONECHECK® creates a closed loop Flow Switch Test circuit:
There is no unnecessary discharge of water, therefore no Fire Pumps operate, so no issues with the Fire Services and no additional manpower required. Pipe corrosion is also under control.

ZONECHECK® is simple and easy to use, requiring no specialist skills and this Flow Switch Test system can be operated at any time. It does not require evacuation of the building and therefore has no effect on normal functioning of the building.

Also available as :
Part Assembled Retrofit Model (complete with Mech. Tees)
And Pre-wired Model (Pre-wired Harness available for all Models of Zonecheck)

ZONECHECK® Addressable is a recently developed system designed to effectively manage a buildings water-flow alarm testing routine. This is achieved by wiring every Zonecheck® (flow-switch tester) to its own intelligent monitoring module (IMM), and connecting each IMM, via a single loop of fireproof cable, to a central controller.

The controller has the ability to initiate a water-flow alarm test for every Zonecheck® in the system. As every flow switch simultaneously operates, the test information is submitted back to the controller. Any flow-switch that does not operate correctly is highlighted on the digital LCD screen and is identified for maintenance.

This valuable feedback plus the unique ability to perform remote testing means that the entire system can be effectively managed from one central location. Further to this, the controller has the built-in capability to transmit useful fire information to a separate fire panel or building management system.

Benefits:

Zonecheck® Addressable, smart system management for a building’s water-flow alarm testing routine.
